If your mouth isn't watering yet, it should be. Michigan’s favorite fall fruit is here by the bushel. While Michigan's

michigan appleswacky weather last year (March: Warm! April: Psych, freezing!) knocked out 90% of the state’s apple crop, this year's trees.whopping 30 million bushels blew last year's paltry 3 million out of the water.  Thanks to this year's warmer spring and the energy the trees saved by NOT producing apples last year, you can now literally shake the apples off the trees.

Live near Lansing? The Country Mill in Charlotte is a local favorite.

This orchard features organic apples you may pick yourself, fresh apple cider and donuts and enough activities to fill a whole day. Looking for a family adventure? Bundle up the kiddos and take them for a hayride to visit their haunted house, corn maze or petting zoo. michigan applesVisit http://www.countrymill.com for hours and directions. And that's exactly what you should be doing at orchards around the state this month. It's time to fall in love with Michigan all over again as you throw on your favorite sweatshirt (layer it over a comfy t-shirt, in case of sunshine), round up a few friends (or a date!) and carpool to your local U-Pick orchard, where crisp apples, cold cider and warm, sugary donuts are waiting in abundance.

Apple-picking in good company among the changing colors are sure signs of a perfect Michigan fall, and are just a few more reasons we're smitten with the Mitten.

Now…what to do with 25 apples? What are your favorite ideas?
